Church of Greece holds first Holy Synod session of the year
The Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece held its first regular session on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, presided over by Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece. The session began following a Divine Liturgy celebrated by Metropolitan Paul of Corinth at the Holy Monastery of Asomaton Petraki.
In his opening address, Archbishop Ieronymos emphasized the importance of the synodal process as a means for the Church to collectively address contemporary issues and share pastoral experience. He noted that while modern communication tools offer unprecedented connectivity, many individuals face increasing challenges of loneliness, internal isolation, and psychological exhaustion, which represent significant hurdles for modern pastoral ministry.
