Churchill Brothers defeat Mumbai City FC 2-1 in ISL debut

Churchill Brothers SC secured a historic 2-1 victory over Mumbai City FC in their Indian Super League (ISL) debut at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa. The win marks a significant milestone for the Goan club as they enter the top-flight league after acquiring the sporting license from Jamshedpur FC.

After a scoreless first half, Gaurav Bora scored the club’s first-ever ISL goal in the 57th minute with a header following a cross from Anil Gaonkar. Sebastian Gutierrez extended the lead to 2-0 in the 86th minute after being set up by substitute Stendley Fernandes. Mumbai City FC managed a late consolation goal in stoppage time when Sergio Llamas converted a penalty, but Churchill Brothers held on to claim the win.

The match featured a tactical battle between Churchill Brothers head coach Dimitris Dimitriou and Mumbai City FC’s new head coach Manolo Márquez. While Mumbai City controlled much of the early possession, the debutants capitalized on their opportunities to start their Season 13 campaign with a win.
