Boxing initiatives expand in Mexico and Colombia

In Mexico, the national boxing strategy ‘Puños de Transformación’ has registered over 28,000 participants across 32 states. Led by CONADE, the initiative utilizes professional boxers to provide free classes to youth, aiming to promote healthy lifestyles and community cohesion.

In Puebla, a high-profile charity boxing match is scheduled for September 19 at the Miguel Hidalgo Gymnasium. The event features Julio César Chávez Jr. against Colombian Jeison Troncoso. Proceeds from the fight will support the construction of an addiction rehabilitation center at Casa Puebla, managed by the State System for Integral Family Development (SEDIF). Legendary boxer Julio César Chávez will also serve as an ambassador for addiction prevention.

Separately, in the Nariño region of Colombia, the government has announced a significant investment in boxing. Between 2024 and 2026, over 1.3 billion pesos will be allocated to strengthen training, hire coaches, and provide incentives for athletes through programs like ‘Vamos por las de Oro’, targeting improved performance for the 2027 National Games.
