Cia-Agricoltori Italiani proposes reforms to revitalize Italian agriculture

Cia-Agricoltori Italiani has presented a manifesto to institutions during its IX Economic Conference in Rome, calling for a revitalization of the national agricultural sector. The proposal focuses on four main pillars: supply chain and market relations, infrastructure and rural areas, climate and environment, and the European outlook.

Addressing economic imbalances, the organization noted that while the Italian agrifood system is valued at 550 billion euros, representing 15% of GDP, farmers receive a disproportionately small share of consumer spending. For fresh products, producers retain only 6 euros out of every 100 spent, dropping to 2 euros for processed goods. To combat this, Cia is calling for specific legislation to redistribute income, ensure fair value-added margins based on production costs, and increase transparency in pricing through tools like the Borsa Merci.
