CIA Director John Ratcliffe visits Moscow to warn against NATO escalation

CIA Director John Ratcliffe recently visited Moscow, a trip that has drawn significant attention regarding its diplomatic objectives. According to reports citing anonymous sources, Ratcliffe warned Russian officials against taking actions that could escalate tensions with NATO allies, specifically targeting the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. He also reportedly urged Russia to reduce its military and economic support for Iran.

While the Kremlin confirmed the visit was related to intelligence agency contacts, it did not provide details regarding the specific topics discussed. U.S. President Donald Trump characterized the visit as “quite routine” and stated that one of the goals was to seek a path toward ending the war in Ukraine.

He traveled from a Washington-area base to Moscow via a large U.S. military C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft, making a 24-hour stop in Riga, Latvia.
