CIAA files Rs 25 billion in corruption cases in one year

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed 175 corruption cases at the Special Court during the 2025/26 fiscal year. According to its annual report submitted to President Ramchandra Paudel, the commission charged 990 individuals and sought the recovery of Rs 25.23 billion in alleged losses.

The cases encompass various offenses, including 56 involving damage to public property, 41 involving bribery, 27 involving the unlawful use of public office for personal gain, and 11 involving illicit wealth. The commission also handled approximately 40,000 complaints, with the largest volume—20,025 cases—concerning alleged corruption within local governments.

This reporting follows a period of significant disruption for the commission, including attacks on its headquarters and regional offices in Itahari, Pokhara, and Hetauda, which resulted in the destruction of forensic laboratories and 73 vehicles.
