Cianjur fatal pile-up kills four in Puncak-Cipanas accident

A fatal multi-vehicle pile-up occurred on the Puncak-Cipanas route in Ciloto Village, Cipanas District, Cianjur, on Friday night, August 21, 2026. The accident involved five vehicles: one box truck, two minibuses, and two motorcycles.

Preliminary investigations suggest the accident was caused by a heavily loaded box truck experiencing brake failure while descending a steep slope. The truck lost control and struck vehicles traveling in the opposite direction, including a Suzuki Ertiga, a Toyota Avanza, and two motorcycles.

Four people have died as a result of the crash, including three residents of Lampung and one resident of Cianjur. Ten other victims sustained injuries and were transported to RSUD Cimacan for medical treatment, with eight individuals remaining under intensive care.

During the evacuation process, emergency responders faced difficulties due to a fuel tank leak from one of the vehicles, which spilled gasoline onto the roadway. The Cianjur Police have increased patrols and monitoring along the descent to prevent further incidents while continuing their investigation.
