Cibinong Prison officials suspended over luxury facility scandal
The Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Affairs has suspended the Head of Cibinong Class IIA Prison, Wisnu Hani Putranto, and four other structural officials following an investigation into luxury facilities within the facility. An unannounced inspection by the Ombudsman RI revealed apartment-like housing clusters equipped with air conditioning, televisions, sofas, refrigerators, and kitchens.
Additional findings include the presence of alcoholic beverages, fitness facilities, and a golf simulator under construction. The investigation also identified 13 official residences along the Ciliwung River that were not recorded in the state asset registry. During a parliamentary hearing, it was revealed that the prison head ordered the removal of several luxury items after a ministerial visit, claiming they were not state-owned property.
The Directorate General of Corrections has launched formal examinations of 90 individuals, including 55 inmates—such as former official Ferdy Sambo—and 35 employees. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is also monitoring the situation, noting that such preferential treatment for certain inmates creates high risks for bribery and transactional corruption.
