CICA Secretary General highlights Asia's growing global economic role

Kayrat Sarıbay, Secretary General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), stated that Asia's influence in global economic and technological development is steadily increasing. Speaking at an international conference held under Azerbaijan's chairmanship regarding the role of ports in regional connectivity and strategic cooperation, Sarıbay emphasized that the region's strength lies in its diversity, markets, and connectivity capabilities.

Sarıbay noted that strengthening cooperation between ports can make regional connectivity more secure, efficient, and sustainable. He highlighted that ports serve as strategic hubs connecting maritime routes with railways, roads, dry ports, logistics centers, and industrial zones. The efficiency and security of these hubs directly impact trade costs, market access, and economic competitiveness.

Furthermore, he stressed that reliable connections to maritime infrastructure are essential for landlocked member states to participate fully in regional and global trade. Under Azerbaijan's presidency, there has been a sustained focus on connectivity, including initiatives to promote practical cooperation among CICA member states through expert discussions and conferences.
