Malecón film to premiere at Havana's Yara cinema

The film ‘Malecón’, the debut feature by Spanish filmmaker Carlos Larrazábal, is set to premiere this Thursday at the Yara cinema in Havana. The production is a collaboration between Cuba, Spain, and the United States.

Filmed entirely in Havana, the story follows Elvis, a teenager who faces life after a prison sentence for killing his stepfather in self-defense. The narrative explores themes of social reintegration, crime, and the tension between staying in Cuba and emigrating, using the iconic Havana promenade as a symbolic backdrop.

Larrazábal, who resides in Los Angeles, expressed his excitement regarding the film's arrival in Cuba during a press conference held by the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC). The film has previously toured international festivals, including the Miami International Film Festival.
