CID seeks seven-day remand for actor Don in Salman Shah murder case

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has requested a seven-day remand for actor Ashraful Haque Don in connection with the murder case of popular film star Salman Shah. A hearing for the remand plea was scheduled by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana for August 27.

Investigators stated that custodial interrogation is necessary to uncover the circumstances surrounding Salman Shah’s death, identify accomplices, and determine how Don attempted to flee the country despite a travel ban. Don was detained by immigration police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on August 9 while attempting to travel to Saudi Arabia. He was subsequently sent to jail after a bail application was rejected.

Salman Shah died on September 6, 1996. While initially treated as an unnatural death, the case was later reclassified as a murder following a petition by the victim’s family. The case involves several accused individuals, including Don, and alleges a conspiracy to kill the actor. The death has remained a long-standing mystery within the Bangladeshi film industry.
