Ciechocinek submits UNESCO World Heritage application

Officials from the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship, local municipal authorities, and the Ciechocinek health resort company have submitted an official application to UNESCO to include the historic salt works and wooden graduation towers in Ciechocinek on the World Heritage List.

The application, which has been sent to the World Heritage Centre in Paris, covers a unique 19th-century complex. The site includes Europe’s largest wooden graduation towers, a salt works building, a pumping station, a brine intake, and the famous ‘Grzybek’ fountain. The facility has produced both medicinal and edible salt using the same traditional methods for nearly two centuries.

Signatories to the document include Voivodeship Marshal Piotr Całbecki, Mayor Jarosław Jucewicz, and Marcin Zajączkowski, president of Uzdrowisko Ciechocinek. The process also involves the Polish ministries of culture and foreign affairs. Proponents state that UNESCO recognition would provide international prestige and assist in securing funds for monument maintenance and protection against degradation.
