Cienciano fined by Conmebol following Copa Sudamericana victory
Conmebol has imposed a $5,000 fine on the Peruvian club Cienciano following infractions during their Copa Sudamericana 2026 match against Botafogo. The disciplinary action follows Cienciano's historic advancement to the quarterfinals after defeating the Brazilian side 6-1 in Cusco.
The sanctions, issued by Conmebol's Disciplinary Unit, stem from violations of the tournament's Club Manual and Security Regulations. Specifically, the club failed to meet requirements for the media tribune at the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega stadium, which mandates specific standards for location, visibility, lighting, and connectivity for accredited journalists.
The fine will be automatically deducted from the club's pending revenue, such as television rights or sponsorship earnings.
