Cienciano defeats Montevideo City Torque 2-0 in Copa Sudamericana

Cienciano secured a 2-0 victory against Montevideo City Torque in the first leg of the 2026 Copa Sudamericana quarterfinals. The match took place at the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega stadium in Cusco, Peru, where the high altitude of approximately 3,400 meters significantly impacted the Uruguayan side.

Cristian Souza opened the scoring in the 28th minute following a cross from Neri Bandiera. Before the end of the first half, defender Maximiliano Amondarain extended the lead with a long-range strike in the 42nd minute.

The advantage allows the Peruvian club to head into the second leg in Montevideo with a two-goal cushion. The decisive return match is scheduled for Thursday, September 17, at the Estadio Centenario in Uruguay.
