Cieszyn Silesia project documents Polish cemetery heritage

The fourth stage of a project to document Polish traces in the cemeteries of the Czech part of Cieszyn Silesia is set to begin in September. The initiative, titled ‘Inventory of Polish traces in the cemeteries of the Czech part of Cieszyn Silesia – stage 4’, is being implemented by the Stefan Wyszyński University Development Foundation in Warsaw in partnership with the Olza Pro Association.

Researchers aim to identify and document tombstones, burial chapels, epitaphs, and inscriptions related to the history of the Polish community. Organizers are calling on local residents to contribute to the archive by sharing old photographs of graves, obituaries, family documents, and personal memories. Such materials are considered vital for recovering information that may have faded from physical monuments or been lost over time.
