Cihuatán Archaeological Park receives US$224,586 for conservation
The third phase of conservation for the Cihuatán Archaeological Park in El Salvador has been launched. This project is funded by a $224,586 grant from the U.S. Department of State’s Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation.
The initiative aims to protect the pre-Hispanic site, which includes a monumental center and residential remains, from erosion and deterioration. Key activities include the conservation of archaeological structures and the use of modern documentation techniques such as high-resolution photography, 3D modeling, and technical drawings to aid future research.
To improve the visitor experience, the project will expand walking trails, install 17 new information panels, and produce the first bilingual (Spanish and English) guide for a Salvadoran archaeological site, which will be available in print and online for free.
