CII Hospital Tech Summit highlights AI and data governance in India
At the 9th CII Hospital Tech Summit, several reports were released regarding the intersection of healthcare, technology, and data governance in India. A joint report by CII and Deloitte, ‘Unlocking Data Governance in Alignment with the DPDP Act and Rules,’ emphasizes the necessity of robust data discovery, privacy, consent management, and cybersecurity to build AI-ready digital healthcare systems. Additionally, a CII-PwC report titled ‘AI Shaping the Future of Healthcare’ examines how artificial intelligence is transforming diagnostics, patient care, and hospital operations through responsible adoption and quality data management.
During the summit, Jaykumar Rawal, Minister for the Government of Maharashtra, stated that the state is positioning itself as a global hub for medical technology, biotechnology, and digital health. He noted that Maharashtra aims to leverage its existing pharmaceutical and medical infrastructure to support the national goal of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047.’
Parallel to these technological advancements, the implementation of India’s Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023, is driving a need for operational compliance frameworks. Organizations, particularly in regulated sectors like banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI), are moving toward embedding data protection requirements into everyday processes, technology architecture, and vendor management to meet the specific mandates of the new law.
