Écija recovers four Roman mosaics found in Town Hall

During the rehabilitation of the Casas Consistoriales building in Écija, archaeologists discovered four Roman mosaics and a high-value marble pavement. The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Junta de Andalucía, which has provided over five million euros for heritage investments in the municipality.

The discovered artifacts have been moved to a municipal warehouse for full restoration. Municipal archaeologist Sergio García reported that approximately 5,000 ceramic fragments, along with bone and metal materials, have been processed. Once restored, the mosaics and pavement are intended to be integrated into the building’s exhibition area.

Mayor Silvia Heredia described the finds as “authentic jewels of the city’s heritage.” While the discovery caused some delays in the building's renovation works, officials noted that the archaeological results are satisfactory and will ensure the preservation of these significant historical elements.
