Cijevna River faces ecological risk from Albanian hydropower projects
Ljiljana Jokić-Kapa, a member of the Civil Movement URA presidency, has raised alarms regarding the construction of hydroelectric plants on the Cijevna River in Albania. The projects, located in the Vukelja and Tamara areas, threaten the river's natural flow, biodiversity, and ecosystem balance.
Jokić-Kapa emphasized that the issue is not merely an internal matter for Albania, as changes to the water regime upstream will directly impact the sections of the river flowing through Montenegro, particularly in the municipality of Tuzi. She called for Montenegrin institutions to utilize international legal and diplomatic mechanisms to protect the country's natural resources and prevent environmental damage caused by cross-border activities.
