Cilegon implements road safety and street lighting upgrades
The Cilegon City Government is implementing several infrastructure and safety initiatives to improve road conditions and lighting. To enhance safety at the Pondok Cilegon Indah (PCI) traffic light, the Department of Transportation plans to close certain U-turn lanes following accidents caused by motorists driving against the flow of traffic. Drivers will be redirected via the South Ring Road (JLS).
Regarding public lighting, Mayor Robinsar announced plans to repair and replace 1,050 street lights between 2026 and 2027. This includes 750 units on the JLS in 2026 and 300 units on National Roads in 2027. The city aims to address a total requirement of approximately 12,000 lighting points. To support these efforts, the Department of Transportation expects to receive a new operational crane in 2027 to expedite repairs.
Additionally, road repairs on the Ciwandan National Road, funded by the state budget (APBN), are expected to be completed by the end of September 2026. Local officials noted that the project faced delays due to cost escalations but emphasized its importance in mitigating flooding and improving road quality.
