CIMA celebrates 50 years of marine research in Galicia

The Galicia Marine Research Center (CIMA) has released its annual report, marking 50 years of scientific activity since its founding in 1975. The center has focused on applied research to support coastal resources, including shellfish harvesting and aquaculture.

Key advancements in 2025 include the successful cultivation of mussel larvae from cryopreserved stocks through the Crinvert project. Other research priorities involve addressing diseases in shellfish beds, improving microalgae production systems, and diversifying cultivated species.

Galician Minister of the Sea, Marta Villaverde, emphasized the center's role in transferring knowledge directly to fishers, shellfish harvesters, and aquaculture professionals. The institution employs approximately 60 professionals across Corón and Ribadeo.
