CIMA hosts 2nd ARNET Meeting on marine science and management
The Marine and Environmental Research Centre (CIMA) at the University of Algarve hosted the 2nd ARNET Meeting, titled “From Rivers to the Ocean: Science for a Changing Territory.” The event focused on the intersection of science, management, and society regarding aquatic ecosystems.
Discussions covered several thematic blocks, including environmental risks, water management, aquatic biodiversity, and the Blue Economy. Specific topics addressed included coastal erosion, saline intrusion, marine biodiversity monitoring, deep-sea mining, and the biotechnological potential of algae. The meeting brought together researchers from CIMA, MARE, and CBMA, alongside representatives from public entities such as the Faro Municipality, the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), and the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF).
