Cimas Healthathon advances to grand finale for digital health innovation
Cimas Health Group’s annual Healthathon has evolved into a national platform for digital health innovation in Zimbabwe. The third edition, themed ‘Reimagining Healthcare Through Disruptive Innovation’, is moving toward its grand finale on Friday, August 28, at the group’s head office in Borrowdale, Harare.
The competition attracted 372 submissions from a diverse group of innovators, including start-ups, researchers, students, and technology enthusiasts. These entries aim to address critical healthcare challenges in Zimbabwe, such as service delivery delays, fragmented data systems, healthcare affordability, and limited access to services.
Following a rigorous screening process that narrowed the field to the Top 20 and then the Top 15, 10 finalist teams have been selected for the grand finale. The participants' projects cover various sectors, including artificial intelligence, diagnostics, preventive healthcare, rural healthcare, rehabilitation, data protection, and emergency response. Foster Akaketwa, Chief Information Officer at Cimas Health Group, noted that the high volume of submissions demonstrates a significant capacity among Zimbabwean innovators to contribute technology-driven solutions to the health sector.
