Indonesia banking credit reaches 10-year high

Indonesian banking credit has reached its highest level in a decade, according to the Financial Services Authority (OJK). Total outstanding credit exceeded Rp9,200 trillion, with growth rates fluctuating between 13.2% and 13.6% year-on-year.

Corporate lending has emerged as the primary driver of this expansion, growing by approximately 21% to 22%. Investment credit also showed strong momentum, increasing by 23% to 25% year-on-year. In contrast, consumer credit growth has slowed, recorded at approximately 4.7% to 5.07%.

Major financial institutions reported varied results for the first nine months of 2026. BCA reported credit expansion of Rp1,063.1 trillion, while CIMB Niaga reached Rp242.6 trillion in total credit and financing. Permata Bank reported credit growth of 10.1% to Rp172.9 trillion. Despite the growth, some analysts warn of tight liquidity and compressed net interest margins due to elevated funding costs and currency pressures.
