Ciminà celebrates centenary of Madonna coronation

In Ciminà, located at the foothills of the Aspromonte, a religious ceremony was held to mark the centenary of the first coronation of the Madonna Addolorata Regina di Ciminà and the bicentenary of the arrival of the sacred image in the town.

Cardinal Dominique Mamberti, Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, presided over the rite and placed a new crown upon the Virgin. The crown was handcrafted by Calabrian goldsmith Michele Affidato using silver with a 24-carat gold bath, featuring embossed floral decorations and fifteen round-cut purple stones. The event was attended by several bishops, including Mons. Cesare Di Pietro, Bishop of Locri-Gerace, and other local clergy.
