Cincinnati Reds announce coaching departure and roster move

The Cincinnati Reds are undergoing several personnel changes as the offseason approaches. President of Baseball Operations Nick Krall confirmed that pitching coach Derek Johnson will not return to the organization following a personal leave of absence that began in June. Johnson, who had been with the team since 2019 and was previously named Major League Coach of the Year by Baseball America, will be replaced by a new hire, with the search for a successor beginning immediately.

In roster moves, the Reds have outrighted infielder Ivan Johnson to Triple-A Louisville. Johnson, a former fourth-round pick, struggled in his limited Major League appearances this season, posting a 1-16 record in 19 plate appearances. While he showed solid offensive numbers in the minors, he faced challenges with contact against high-level pitching. As a minor league free agent, Johnson will hit the market at the start of the offseason.
