Cincinnati Reds Pitcher Hunter Greene to Undergo Season-Ending Elbow Surgery

Cincinnati Reds right‑hander Hunter Greene, 27, will have season‑ending elbow surgery to repair a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament. The procedure, announced by Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall, is the second operation on the same joint this year after an arthroscopic surgery in March to remove bone chips. Greene made five starts after returning on July 4, posting a 2‑2 record with a 6.83 ERA, 33 strikeouts and nine walks over 27 2/3 innings. Krall said, “the ligament was failing… it’s going to be some sort of procedure around the ligament.” Greene was placed on the 15‑day injured list before the surgery was confirmed. The injury ends his 2026 season and likely sidelines him for much of 2027. The Reds, currently 56‑58 and fourth in the NL Central, will finish the year without their former 2024 All‑Star. Greene’s career includes a 2019 Tommy John surgery and a reputation as the Reds’ ace when healthy.
