Cincinnati Reds players Santillan and Steer scheduled for surgery

The Cincinnati Reds face significant roster setbacks as players Tony Santillan and Spencer Steer are scheduled for surgery.

Reliever Tony Santillan will undergo surgery in Nashville to repair a left hip labral tear. Santillan, who struggled through a difficult season marked by injuries, appeared in 44 games with a 6.42 ERA. His injury effectively ends his season. Connor Phillips has been recalled from AAA Louisville to fill his spot on the roster.

Additionally, Spencer Steer is scheduled for right wrist surgery in Phoenix. Steer reported feeling discomfort while swinging a bat last week. He is expected to be ready for Spring Training in 2027, though the injury prevents him from participating in the Arizona Fall League as originally planned. Steer recorded 16 home runs during the current season.
