Cineby streaming site announces permanent shutdown for August 26

The major illegal streaming platform Cineby has announced it will permanently shut down on August 26, 2026. The platform, which recorded over 160 million monthly visits in July 2026, will also see its affiliated sites, Cineplay and Fmovies+, cease operations.

The closure follows intensified international legal pressure. The Motion Picture Association (MPA) had previously identified Cineby as a significant illegal streaming operation. Judicial actions have mounted across several jurisdictions: the United Kingdom included the site in a global blocking order in May, Canada issued a similar decision through its federal court, and India ordered the blocking of four domains in July following complaints from HBO and other studios.

According to the announcement posted on the site, all servers will be closed and user accounts will be deleted following the shutdown date. While the site remains functional until the deadline, users may experience instability during the transition period.
