CineFantasy festival returns to São Paulo for 17th edition

The 17th edition of CineFantasy, an international fantastic cinema festival, will take place in São Paulo from September 1 to 6. The event will feature 70 films from 24 countries and territories, focusing on fantasy, horror, and science fiction.

Admission to the festival is free, with in-person screenings held at venues such as the Museu da Imagem e do Som (MIS), Spcine Olido, and the Centro de Formação Cultural Cidade Tiradentes. Digital access will be provided via DARKFLIX+ and Spcine Play.

The festival opens with the Brazilian premiere of “Occupy Cannes,” directed by Lily-Hayes Kaufman and produced by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz of Troma Entertainment. The documentary follows a 2013 guerrilla marketing campaign by the Troma team at the Cannes Film Festival to defend independent cinema. Other notable titles include “Sangrar,” “Samba Infinito,” and “Juliana Contra o Jambeiro do Diabo pelo Coração de João Batista.”

This edition will also honor Liz Marins, the creator of the character Liz Vamp, celebrating her contribution to Brazilian horror and pop culture.
