Cinehill Film Festival Begins in Fužine, Croatia, Honoring Actor Zijah Sokolović

The Cinehill Film Festival opened on 21 July in Fužine, a village in Croatia’s Gorski Kotar region, and will run through 26 July. The event is known for its outdoor screenings in the forest, offering a six‑day program of more than 100 films and a roster of international guests, including Oscar‑winner Edward Berger, actress Noomi Rapace, and directors such as Goran Marković and Rajko Grlić.

A special "50 years" award was presented to Bosnian‑Herzegovinian actor Zijah Sokolović for his half‑century contribution to cinema. A retrospective program highlighted his career with restored screenings of "Šarm birokratije", "Jasmina" and "Paviljon". The festival also featured co‑productions from Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark and Montenegro, such as Teona Strugar Mitevska’s "Majka" and Srđan Vuletić’s "Vidra".

Cinehill continues its tradition of promoting independent and auteur film, blending cinema with the natural setting of the Croatian mountains.
