Cinema and memory: Pasolini legacy in Barile and Schillaci’s new film

The town of Barile is hosting “Barile Visionaria,” a project dedicated to the cinematic legacy of Pier Paolo Pasolini. The event commemorates the 1964 filming of “The Gospel According to St. Matthew” in the Vulture region. Scheduled for August 22, the program includes a conference featuring film critics, historians, and actors to explore the relationship between Pasolini’s work and the Basilicata landscape.

In separate film news, director Giuseppe Schillaci is preparing to present his new work, “Auber 89,” at the Giornate degli Autori on September 10. The film explores the Parisian suburb of Aubervilliers during the 1980s, drawing parallels between the French social housing projects and the director’s own childhood in Palermo. The project features actor Fatsah Bouyahmed and examines themes of gentrification and urban memory.
