Cinema education initiatives launch for youth in Italy
Various regional educational initiatives in Italy are utilizing cinema to engage youth and explore local identity.
In Terrasini, Sicily, the “Travel On Set” program is launching a new season led by international actress Denise Sardisco. Produced by Ermelinda Maturo, the international training course aims to teach children and adolescents the languages of directing and acting, as well as behind-the-scenes professions. The program is open to youth from across the region and will hold an Open Day on October 12, 2026, at the Terrasini Day Center.
In the Maremma region, the “Microcosmi” project has concluded with students from the Isola del Giglio secondary school producing short films. Working alongside professionals, students acted as directors and actors to explore the memory and identity of their communities. The project, which involved schools from Monte Argentario, Giglio, Pitigliano, Castell'Azzara, and Sorano, will culminate in a screening of the student-made short films at the Supercinema in Orbetello on October 8, 2026.
