Cinema in Verde environmental film festival opens in Rome

The fourth edition of Cinema in Verde, an international environmental film festival, has launched in Rome. Expanding from its previous locations at the Botanical Garden, the festival now includes the Sapienza University of Rome's New Ateneo Theater and the gardens of Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II.

The event features six international films, including titles making their Italian debuts, which are competing for the Ginkgo d’Oro 2026 award. The festival program combines film screenings with discussions involving experts and journalists to address topics such as climate change, climate migration, the destruction of the Amazon rainforest, and the role of agriculture in environmental solutions.

Organized by Silverback in collaboration with Sapienza University and under the artistic direction of Claudia Campanelli, the festival aims to foster cultural change and engage citizens in environmental issues. Sabrina Alfonsi, Rome's Councilor for Agriculture and Environment, emphasized the critical role of cities in addressing climate emergencies and the need for national political support.
