Cinema industry sees strong 2026 growth with major upcoming releases

The film industry is seeing a significant resurgence in 2026, with Spanish box office revenues up 30% and attendance up 25% compared to 2025. Key upcoming releases include Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s ‘El ser querido’ and ‘La bola negra’ by Los Javis, following their success at Cannes.

Major international productions are also driving anticipation. Alejandro González Iñárritu’s ‘Digger’, featuring Tom Cruise, is positioned as an Oscar contender for 2027. Additionally, the end of the year is expected to feature a major cinematic rivalry between ‘Dune: Part Three’ and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, both scheduled for release in December.

In terms of technical production, the survival film ‘Whalefall’, directed by Brian Duffield, has gained attention for its practical effects. Rather than relying on CGI, the production team constructed a full-scale whale stomach to film the protagonist's survival sequence.
