Cinema initiatives launch in Burkina Faso and France
In Burkina Faso, the Association des critiques de cinéma du Burkina (ASCRIC-B) concluded the 8th edition of the Ouagadougou Cinema Criticism Week (SECRICO) on September 12, 2026. The event aimed to equip journalists and professionals with the technical language and analytical tools necessary to critique film more effectively ahead of the FESPACO festival. Participants analyzed classic African films, including works by Idrissa Ouédraogo and Gaston Kaboré, focusing on elements such as oral tradition, framing, and screenplay.
In France, the Séquence Courts short film festival is set to launch in Nîmes on October 15. Organized by the Wani-Ayo association and founded by actress Tella Kpomahou, the festival seeks to provide a platform for both emerging and established short film directors. The launch event will feature the screening of the fiction short film ‘Caravane’, directed by Thierry Gentet, to highlight the importance of short films in the cinematic landscape.
