João Pessoa's Cinema Passeio Screens French Films Atlantique and Maki’la

The public cinema Cinema Passeio in the Torre district of João Pessoa will host free weekend screenings of two French productions, Atlantique directed by Mati Diop and Maki’la by Machérie Ekwa Bahango. The event is part of the Institut Français de Cinéma showcase and is organized in partnership with the French Embassy and the Alliance Française.

Cinema Passeio, created by the municipal cultural foundation Funjope, operates Friday‑Sunday with tickets collected an hour before each showing. Executive director Marcus Alves said the collaboration “strengthens our concept of Cinema Passeio as a venue for audience development” and adds “a tribute to all of France.”

The schedule lists Atlantique (12‑year rating) at 16:00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and Maki’la (16‑year rating) at 19:00 on the same days. Both films explore themes of migration, survival and street life in African contexts.
