Cinema projects expand audiovisual education in Brazilian schools

Educational initiatives in Brazil are utilizing cinema to engage students and promote audiovisual literacy. In Rio de Janeiro, the ‘Luz, Câmera, Educação!’ project is expanding its reach for the second half of 2026. Supported by the Instituto David Miranda and produced by Mauá Filmes and Barra Filmes, the program trains teachers to act as multipliers who guide students through the entire filmmaking process, including scriptwriting, production, filming, and editing. The project aims to democratize access to audiovisual tools, with student short films set to be featured in the FestCine Estudantil in early 2027.

Similarly, the ‘Cine CG nas Escolas’ project is bringing regional cinema to schools in Mato Grosso do Sul. The initiative focuses on screening short films and animations produced by local artists to foster identification with social themes such as bullying and drug use. By hosting discussions with filmmakers and producers, the project seeks to build local audiences and connect students with the artistic community of their own state.
