Cinemora team wins International Law of the Sea Moot Court Competition

The Cinemora team from Pukyong National University won the 2026 International Law of the Sea Moot Court Competition held on August 21 at Korea University. Organized by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the annual event aims to discover talent in the field of international maritime law.

Out of 30 applicant teams from major universities nationwide, eight advanced to the finals. The competition focused on legal arguments regarding coastal state jurisdiction and the right of passage for strait users. Key topics included the application of the transit passage regime under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the scope of coastal state jurisdiction over vessels posing marine pollution risks, and the impact of bridge construction on passage rights.

The Cinemora team received a prize of 5 million won for their ability to persuasively connect legal issues with factual circumstances through a thorough review of international treaties and precedents. The runner-up was the 'Law Firm Pirate' team (a joint team from Catholic University and Hanyang University), and the 'Giseonje-ap' team from Yonsei University Law School received an encouragement award. Kim So-eon from Catholic University was named the Best Oralist.
