Cinémathèque de Bretagne announces modernization and new premises
The Cinémathèque de Bretagne, located in Brest since 1995, is undergoing significant modernization and expansion efforts. Under the direction of Gaïd Pitrou, the institution manages a collection of 12,000 films that are accessible to the public, preserving amateur footage and historical imagery from the region.
Recent technical upgrades include the renovation of film storage facilities at the Quartz this summer, featuring a new air treatment system to regulate humidity and temperature. Looking ahead, the institution plans to move to new, larger premises on Rue Victor-Hugo in the city center. Construction at the new site is scheduled to begin in April 2027, with a move expected in 2028.
The Cinémathèque also participates in the Diaz interregio network, which connects archives from 19 French-speaking cinematheques. To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the institution will host various events throughout Brest.
