Cinépolis secures US$380 million sustainability-linked financing
Cinépolis has closed a US$380 million, seven-year unsecured sustainability-linked financing agreement led by the International Finance Corporation (IFC). Participating lenders include BBVA México, Banamex, BanBajío, and Scotiabank México.
This financing, the first of its kind in Latin America’s creative industries, ties the company’s growth to specific social and environmental targets, such as gender diversity in leadership and operational sustainability. The funds are designated for the construction of new theaters, the renovation of existing venues, digital transformation, and investment in local audiovisual content.
According to a Latinometrics 2026 ranking, Cinépolis has become the world’s largest cinema chain with 892 locations across 19 countries, surpassing competitors such as AMC Theatres, Ruyi Films, and Regal Cineworld. The expansion is expected to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs within the creative industries value chain.
