CINTAA faces internal dispute and criticism over working conditions

The Cine and TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) is facing an internal crisis involving unfulfilled election promises and disputes over the functioning of its executive committee. The conflict, which some industry members state has been ongoing since 2016, follows the resignation of eleven members last month.

Actor and former CINTAA office-bearer Deepak Qazir Kejriwal has criticized the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) for attempting to involve itself in the matter, asserting that the federation has ‘no right’ to interfere in CINTAA’s internal affairs. Kejriwal noted that promises made during the 2024 elections—including eight-hour shifts, conveyance, and timely payments—have not been met. He also highlighted broader industry issues, such as crew members facing 16-hour shooting days.

Actor Rakesh Bedi expressed disappointment regarding the ongoing dispute, describing the situation as ‘very sad.’ While acknowledging the tensions, Bedi expressed hope for a future settlement and emphasized the continued dedication of actors to the association’s social work and welfare initiatives.
