CINTAA faces leadership disputes and labor concerns

The Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) is facing internal turmoil involving leadership disputes and concerns over industry working conditions. Advocate AS Peerzada, representing President Poonam Dhillon and General Secretary Padmini Kolhapure, has criticized the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) for intervening in CINTAA’s internal affairs. Peerzada argued that the federation’s decision to supersede CINTAA’s elected committee was a “completely wrong approach” and that the federation should have maintained neutrality rather than overriding the association’s autonomous governance.

Separately, actress and CINTAA member Kunickaa Sadanand has raised alarms regarding labor practices in the entertainment sector. Sadanand highlighted a disparity in compensation, noting that while technicians receive extra pay for extended shifts, actors often work 10 to 12 hours without additional remuneration. She described the treatment of artists as “stepmother-like” and called for fair compensation for extra hours. Sadanand also commented on the ongoing leadership tensions, suggesting that the reluctance of some members to relinquish positions following recent elections appeared to be an “ego issue.”
