CINTAA leadership dispute: Upasana Singh claims presidency
Upasana Singh and treasurer Nagma Morarji have claimed victory in an internal governance dispute within the Cine and TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA). Following court rulings in their favor, Singh's faction has taken charge of the association.
The dispute originated in August following the resignation of 11 executive committee members due to disagreements with then-president Poonam Dhillon and senior vice-president Padmini Kolhapure. While the Dhillon-Kolhapure faction held a separate election on October 20, the Bombay High Court restrained them from acting on those results and issued a contempt show-cause notice for allegedly violating court directions.
Singh has alleged significant financial mismanagement by the previous committee, including the unauthorized breaking and transfer of ₹73L in fixed deposits. She further claimed that the previous leadership failed to adhere to constitutional requirements to spend 20 percent of association funds on artist welfare, neglecting issues such as delayed payments and conveyance allowances.
