Cinturão das Águas do Ceará water project nears completion

Construction of the Cinturão das Águas do Ceará (CAC) is entering its final stages, aimed at enhancing water security for the state of Ceará. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva recently inspected Lot 3 of the project in Crato, accompanied by several federal ministers.

The system consists of 145.3 kilometers of open channels, tunnels, and siphons designed to transport water from the Jati Dam—part of the Rio São Francisco Integration Project—to the headwaters of the Cariús River in Nova Olinda. The project involves a total investment of approximately R$ 2.43 billion, combining federal resources and the Novo PAC program.

Once completed, the CAC is expected to directly benefit 561,000 people across 24 municipalities, supporting human consumption, industry, tourism, and irrigated agriculture. Additionally, the infrastructure will contribute to the water security of the Fortaleza Metropolitan Region, which houses over 4 million residents.
