Mexico tourism hits record 59.7 million international visitors

Mexico has reached several historic tourism milestones between January and July 2026. According to reports from the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR), the country welcomed 59.7 million international visitors, representing a 7% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This influx generated an economic impact of approximately 21.74 billion dollars.

Other notable records include a significant rise in cruise tourism, with 7.4 million passengers arriving—a 13.6% increase from the previous year. The cruise sector alone contributed over 649 million dollars to the economy. Additionally, private investment in the tourism sector reached 1.965 billion dollars, accounting for 6.3% of total national private investment.

Employment within the industry has also reached a record high, with 5.07 million people employed in tourism, making up 9.3% of the national workforce. Domestic tourism remains strong, with 65 million Mexican citizens traveling within the country during the first seven months of the year. The government aims to exceed 51 million international tourists by the end of 2026.
