Ciprian Ciucu claims Bucharest lost significant European funds

Bucharest Mayor Ciprian Ciucu has claimed that the city administration lost significant amounts of European funding prior to his term. According to Ciucu, the institution lost two-thirds of its European funds and approximately 20% of its National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) resources due to previous underperformance.

Ciucu, who previously served as the mayor of Sector 6, contrasted the capital's situation with his former district, stating that no projects in Sector 6 were withdrawn or lost from PNRR funding.

To support ongoing infrastructure projects, the mayor stated he has held discussions with development banks to ensure available financing. He emphasized that the municipality is not borrowing for superficial improvements like curbs or flowerbeds, but for serious long-term infrastructure. Ciucu urged contractors working on Bucharest sites to mobilize and submit invoices, assuring them that the municipality has the capacity to settle payments.
