Ciprian Ciucu proposes renaming Izvor Park to Nadia Comăneci Park

Bucharest Mayor Ciprian Ciucu has proposed renaming Izvor Park to “Nadia Comăneci Park” to the city's general council. The initiative follows a request from the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the gymnast's historic perfect score at the Montreal Olympic Games.

Ciucu suggested that political group leaders hold debates on the matter, noting that while some may hold conservative views, the recognition honors a figure who lived in Bucharest during her active career.

In a separate development, the Bucharest General Council approved a partnership with the National Administration “Apele Române” to undertake urban regeneration projects along the Dâmbovița River. This collaboration aims to rehabilitate the riverbanks and bed through technical interventions, ecological restoration, and the implementation of nature-based solutions to combat climate change and reduce the city's carbon footprint.
