Ciputat warehouse explosion kills two and injures 11

A powerful explosion at a fruit storage warehouse in the Pasar Cimanggis area of Ciputat, South Tangerang, killed two people and injured 11 others on Wednesday evening, October 14, 2026. The victims, including identified individuals Riko and Achmad Tri Prasetyo, were treated at RSUD Tangsel, RS Sari Asih, and RS Fatmawati. Some victims sustained severe burns of up to 90 percent.

Police and forensic teams from Bareskrim Polri have confirmed that the incident was not caused by a bomb. During the investigation of the scene, authorities discovered a 52-kilogram ethylene gas cylinder and pieces of hoses used in a refining room designed to accelerate the ripening of bananas. Investigators are also examining damaged electrical components, such as a motor/fan, to determine the exact cause.

Law enforcement has secured 18 CCTV cameras and their decoders from the site to review activities leading up to the blast. While the presence of ethylene gas is a primary lead, investigators have not yet reached a definitive conclusion regarding whether the explosion was accidental or intentional. Brimob personnel were deployed to assist with evacuation and site sterilization.
