Ciranda de Filmes returns to São Paulo with focus on childhood

The 9th edition of Ciranda de Filmes is returning to São Paulo after a two-year hiatus. Held at the Espaço Petrobras de Cinema, the event will run with free public programming from September 10 to 13, following a private opening on September 9. The festival focuses on childhood, youth, and education, featuring over 50 Brazilian and international productions, including feature films and shorts, alongside workshops and discussions.

Highlighting the festival is the Brazilian animation 'Papaya', directed by Priscilla Kellen. The film, which follows a papaya seed's journey, has gained international recognition, including selection for the Generation KPlus section at the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival. 'Papaya' is scheduled for a Brazilian theatrical release on September 24, 2026. The animation is noted for its unique 'post-apocalyptic tropicalism' aesthetic, utilizing 2D animation and collage techniques inspired by Latin American references and Henri Matisse.
